Translating rural heritage into a new identity for Fishers Yard

The Outcome
A strong visual identity doesn’t start with visuals. It starts with understanding context, intent and meaning. This project outlines our design process at Effect Studio, from research and narrative discovery through to concept creation and final direction. Identity is never just decorative. It’s defined by purpose, shaped by story and built with clarity.
Scope
Exploring Direction
The brief called for an identity rooted in the site’s rural heritage, translating Blackmore’s centuries of community, craft and cultivation, along with its orchards, meadows and hedgerows, into a mark suited to a small, considered development set within the Green Belt. Research into the parish’s history and landmarks shaped three distinct directions, each interpreting Blackmore’s character through a different lens.
Concept one
Inspired by Blackmore’s history of making, the concept draws on craft as a defining characteristic of place.From timber frames to vernacular buildings, the village is shaped by purposeful construction rather than ornament.
This thinking was distilled into Fisher’s Yard as a place of work and quality. A signet-style identity was crafted as a modern master’s mark – restrained, confident, and built to endure.
Concept two
Inspired by Blackmore’s monastic past, the concept takes cues from the arched timber frames found throughout the village, expressing a language of structure and permanence.
Those architectural arches informed an emblematic identity for Fisher’s Yard. The logo echoes their geometry, distilling historic form into a modern mark – restrained, considered, and rooted in place.
The Chosen Direction
The Meadow Enclave concept explores the development’s secluded position beside the green belt, framing it as an exclusive pocket set apart within the landscape.
Six forms were arranged in rotation to suggest a discreet enclave of homes, while their combined silhouette resolves into a flower – a deliberate balance between structure and softness, exclusivity and landscape.
